What’s Happening at SHP!

News:

  • After several weeks of chalk and water at the easel, many children enjoyed the return of paint. Kids are becoming more and more independent in writing their names on the list and on their paper, clipping their paper to the easel, taking it down & placing it on the drying rack, then washing the easel in preparation for the next student.
  • Magnatiles also returned, and many children engaged in different types of building with them. With a teacher’s help, we tried building magnatile ramps (we purchased from the childcare). They are very challenging to work with, and fall down easily, but it was great fun trying to figure out how to support the structure, make levels higher to incline the ramps, watch the light-up balls roll down (or jump off the sides). Amazingly, nobody got upset when their combined hard work collapsed repeatedly, since it was built of magnatiles!

  • Extended Day:

    • Kindergarten evaluations
    • Cutting fabric for our next sewing project

Songs:

  • Many song requests from children (5 Pumpkins, Willaby Wallaby, Hey Dum Diddly Dum)

Books:

  • Chimpanzees for Tea
  • The Monster at the End of This Book
  • The Red Ripe Strawberry

Important Requests:

  • We have new tri-fold pamphlets for distribution! We would really appreciate it if families would take some pamphlets and ask if you can leave some at places you frequent. Some suggestions:

    • Libraries
    • Pediatrician’s Offices
    • Adams or other markets
    • Kids’ classes (gymnastics, martial arts, swim, etc)
    • Children’s museums

Reminders:

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Don’t forget to sign up for a conference below for the week of 4/1/24
  • Spring is mud season (as you’ve probably noticed). Even as it warms up, please continue to pack the following items for your child every day. When it’s warm and muddy, we will ask kids to wear rain or snow pants and boots, and take the coat off if they’re hot. This protects their clothes and allows them to enjoy the important sensory and creative play that mud offers.

    • Rain boots if it’s wet
    • Snow boots if it’s cold/snowy
    • Inside shoes (sneakers, slip ons, etc)
    • Snow pants if there’s snow or even if if it’s cold or wet
    • A change or two of clothes
    • Coat
    • Hat
    • Mittens/gloves
    • Sweater for indoors (we keep the windows open a couple inches).
